Microsuction is the safest, most effective way of removing wax build up and any obstruction cused by foreign bodies down the ear canal. Ear wax removal using microsuction is performed with the aid of magnifying loupes ( glasses), or head torch with a finely calibrated suction device without the introduction of any materials or liquids.

Microsuction is very well tolerated by the majority of people and can give fast results hence it is more effective than traditional methods of wax removal methods. It is rare that people need wax softening products, commonly olive oil and most clients manage to have their ears cleared in one session without any wax pre-treatment.

CHARGES

We charge £45 for one ear procedure and £65 for both ears. There is a £10 charge for the examination only if no intervention is required. We are able to make emergency appointments some evenings and weekends. These can include home visits and there is usually an extra charge to cover travel. If the problem isn’t a blocked ear, then there is access to an Audiologist, RJD Hearing for a hearing test.

PROCEDURE

Safe: Microsuction is the preferred method of treatment for both medical staff and patients alike for effective and safe removal of ear wax. Before any procedure is carried out a suitably qualified nurse will discuss the procedure with you explaining what the process will be and how it is performed. The nurse will examine your ears and discuss the most appropriate method of wax removal. We only use suitably qualified nurses to carry out the procedure who have extensive knowledge and experience in this field.

Microsuction is carried out using a suction device and a very thin wand attached to the machine via a suction tube which gently removes the blockage. There is no water put in the ear making the procedure more pleasant and reducing the risk of infections and complications. It is also safe to be used on clients who have had previous ear surgery or has any perforation present

Using our services ensures that you have your earwax removed safely quickly and by a person you can trust. There are a few occasions where microsuction doesn’t work or is contra-indicated our nurses are trained in ear irrigation and have the option to use this method. The nurse will discuss this on an individual basis as necessary.

WHY MICROSUCTION AND NOT EAR SYRINGING

Using our services ensures that you have your earwax removed safely, quickly and by a person you can trust. The process is usually over in a few minutes and the majority of people find it easy and comfortable.  The process is the safest way to remove earwax as the professional can see everything they are doing during the removal.
Unlike ear syringing or ear irrigation, where ear wax is flushed out without a view of the canal, during microsuction, the canal and the ear wax is being directly viewed with the microscope whilst it is being removed. This makes the procedure much quicker, safer and comfortable for the patient. There are on very few occasions where microsuction doesn’t work our nurses are trained in Ear Irrigation and have the option to use this method, the nurse will discuss this option if microsuction has not worked.

WHO CAN HAVE THE PROCEDURE DONE

We can carry out the procedure on adults and children if they are co operative and can sit still so it can be carried out safely. If you feel your child needs intervention and is under the age of 10 please book a telephone consultation with our practitioner to discuss.
